Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel has authorized charging a 17-year-old male with murder and felony murder for beating to death a 71-year-old Atlantic City man.
It is alleged that at 1:58 a.m. on July 29 the Atlantic City teen kicked, punched and hit Alfred Kessleski over the head with a milk crate outside of the victim’s Atlantic Avenue residence. It is further alleged that the juvenile stole the victim’s wallet.
Kessleski was pronounced dead on Tuesday afternoon at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus. Dr. Charles Siebert performed an autopsy on the victim and determined he died of blunt force trauma to the head, Prosecutor Housel stated.
In addition to murder and felony murder, the juvenile is charged with armed robbery, robbery, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon (a milk crate), and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Atlantic City Police arrested the juvenile at his North Florida Avenue home the night of the crime. He is lodged in the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City pending further proceedings.
