JUDGE RULES GRINDR NOT LIBABLE FOR LOCAL MAN’S ENCOUNTER WITH TEEN

A lawsuit against Grindr, a social networking app, was dismissed by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Jerome Simandle. The suit was filed by William Saponaro Jr., 52, of Cape May, who was arrested for allegedly having sex with a 13 year-old boy he met through Grindr. Saponaro claimed that Grindr was negligent for allowing a minor to hold himself out as an adult of consenting age on its site. Grindr argued that it was immune from liability under the Communications Decency Act. Sapanoro was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, along with Mark LeMunyon, 24, also of Cape May. Charges are still pending and Saponaro could face more than 20 years in prison.
