INTEREST ARBITRATION LAW EXPIRES APRIL 1

A key deadline is coming for local towns and many say your taxes could rise as a result. A law that requires arbitration awards for public unions like police and fire, previously could be no higher than two percent. All towns are held to two percent property tax caps as well. If this measure expires, arbitration awards could begin to exceed the two percent measure that was a driving force in keeping property taxes down. The League of Municipalities says property taxes across the state rose on average 1.7 percent last year.
