A Galloway Township man was sentenced to five years in prison for second-degree aggravated assault for seriously injuring a Mays Landing woman in 2010, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel stated.
Barry Bethea, 37, must serve 85 percent of the prison term, or four years and three months, before becoming eligible for parole, in accordance with a May 24 plea agreement. Upon release from prison, Bethea must serve three years of parole supervision, have no contact with the victim and pay $5000 in restitution. The Judge also imposed a consecutive 90-day sentence for Bethea’s violation of a restraining order with the same victim.
On Aug. 8, 2010 at 2:54 p.m., while in a campground in Egg Harbor City, Bethea and a woman, whose initials are F.B., had an altercation that resulted in the woman being stabbed in the abdomen. The victim, who was 25-years-old at the time of the incident, suffered non-life threatening injuries and received treatment at the hospital. The defendant was taken into custody and the victim obtained a restraining order against him. He subsequently contacted her and violated the protective order
