COUNTY PROSECUTOR: WILDWOOD VIOLATED OPEN MEETINGS ACT

COW-LogoThe City Commission in Wildwood violated the Open Meetings Act, according to Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor. An investigation began when City Clerk Chris Wood notified Taylor that meetings were being held that did not correspond with the law. Two announced meetings were published as open meetings to interview candidates for city administrator, but attorney’s for the city said that it was a personnel matter and did not require the meeting to be open. Taylor wrote a letter to city officials saying that hiring an administrator is public business and the rulings were not correct in his belief.

Taylor went on to say in the letter that he will not pursue the matters any further this time, because both Ed Harshaw and Al Brannen are recently elected officials and may not be aware of all of the aspects of the Open Meetings Law. Taylor did say he expects more out of Mayor Gary DeMarzo and the attorneys for the city.
