COUNTY FAILS TO ADOPT NEW BUDGET

Cape May County Freeholders met on Tuesday but did the unexpected:  They did not adopt a new county budget.  Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton announced at the meeting that the freeholders were informed that they should not adopt the $138 million spending plan due to funding that may or may not be available at the state level.  Governor Chris Christie delivered his budget address in Trenton just 90 minutes before the board held its meeting.  Thornton says it’s possible the budget could be approved at the March 12th meeting.
