CITY COUNCIL DECLINES TO REINSTATE SHEEHAN AS POLICE CHIEF

Despite overwhelming support from the public and visiting chiefs of police, Cape May City Council decided to wait for the conclusion of an investigation by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office before voting on the reinstatement of Robert Sheehan as police chief. The council meeting on Tuesday night was held at the Cape May Convention Hall, with over 300 people in attendance. Sheehan entered the hall to loud cheers and a standing ovation. The first order of business was a motion by Councilman Shaine Meier to reinstate Sheehan as chief, but the motion was never seconded. Chiefs of police from throughout the state called for Sheehan’s reinstatement during the public comment portion of the meeting. Former Cape May Mayors Jerry Gaffney and Jerry Inderweis, Sr. also spoke out in support of Sheehan.
