BORGATA TAX APPEAL COSTS LOCAL TAXPAYERS MILLIONS

Atlantic County taxpayers will have to fork over millions of dollars to Atlantic City as a result of a successful tax appeal by the Borgata Hotel Casino. The state Attorney General’s Office ruled that the county owes Atlantic City $6.8 million for their share of the Borgata’s tax appeal for 2009 and 2010. This forces Atlantic County to raise their tax rate by 1.7 cents, which means the average homeowner will be paying an extra $6 toward the general purpose tax.
