AVALON POLICE CHARGE MAN WITH THEFT OF BOAT

 The Avalon Police Department has recently charged a 53 year old Salem County man with motor vehicle theft. This arrest follows a one year investigation into the disappearance the fishing boat, motor and trailer, which had been stored in the driveway of a summer resident.

 With the assistance of the Elmer, NJ Police Department, local authorities claim Steven P. Turner, of Elmer, NJ took the vessel from the victims’ property while Turner was staying at the home of a relative nearby.  The Boston Whaler Montauk, Mercury motor and trailer was valued at nearly $25.000.00.

Turner is currently at the Salem County Correctional facility on $25,000.00 cash bail set by Hon. George Neidig of the Avalon Municipal Court. Turner also faces several other criminal complaints from Elmer Borough.

 The case was investigated by Ptlm. Frank Hood, Ptlm. Eric Hiesman and Det. Joseph Gaughan.
