AVALON MAYOR DELIVERS BUDGET MESSAGE TO COUNCIL

Some good news for Avalon residents in 2011.  Borough Council is expected to introduce its budget during tonight’s counicl meeting, and the new spending plan calls for no increase in the tax levy in Avalon.  The budget totals $27.2 million, which includes a nearly $4 million payment from the state for last year’s beach fill.  The tax rate in Avalon will go up slightly as a result of a recent property reassessment that resulted in a $1.6 billion decline in the ratable base.  The budget includes another beach fill for the north end of the community to be conducted by the federal government in the spring.  The spending plan is also supported by a mandatory transfer of funds from the Avalon Free Public Library.  More details are available on the Borough’s website, www.avalonboro.org.
