AVALON COUNCIL HAS NEW PRESIDENT

Council President Richard Dean and Councilman Chuck CovingtonAvalon Councilman Richard Dean was named the new president of the Avalon Borough Council during council’s reorganization meeting on Thursday, July 4, 2010.

Council voted 4-0, with Councilman Dean’s abstention, to name Dean the new council president, replacing Charles Covington.  Council also voted Dr. Nancy Hudanich as the vice-president of council during the reorganization meeting.  It is customary in Avalon for the five members of Borough Council to rotate the position of council president and vice president on an annual basis.

Dean’s first term on the Avalon Borough Council began on July 1, 1987.  In May, 2007, Dean began serving his fifth, four year term on Borough Council.  He has been recognized by the New Jersey League of Municipalities by his nomination to the league’s Elected Officials Hall of Fame.
