ATLANTIC CITY ELECTRIC MAKING REPAIRS FOLLOWING THURSDAY STORMS

Atlantic City Electric plans to conduct a controlled outage at about noon today affecting about 19,000 customers in the Chelsea and Chelsea Heights neighborhoods of Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and Longport. The outage is expected to last about six hours while repairs are made to the electric system.

The outage is necessary to make repairs to the system following destructive thunderstorms that swept through the region Thursday. In addition to the storm damage that needs to be repaired, the utility needs to make repairs caused by a motor vehicle accident.

Atlantic City Electric crews are working to restore service as safely and quickly as possible to the remaining 33,000 customers impacted by the severe thunder and lightning storm which swept through the region late Thursday afternoon. Overall, the storm knocked power out to more than 65,000 Atlantic City Electric customers.

Atlantic City Electric expects to make significant progress restoring service Friday and additional crews are being called in from other areas to assist in the restoration. Because of the extent of the storm-related damage it is possible the restoration efforts will last through the weekend.
