8:00pm: POLLS CLOSE, LOCAL CLERKS COUNT UP THE RESULTS

The polls are closed in New Jersey’s general election.  The polls closed at 8:00pm Tuesday with rain over much of the Garden State.  Municipal clerks now pull the numbers from the voting machines in their municipalities, record them, and shuttle the electronic boxes to the County Clerk’s office in Cape May Court House.  There are high profile contested races in communities including Wildwood Crest, Middle Township, and Dennis Township, with lower profile municipal races in other municipalities.
