In Memory of Captain Fred Klug

It is with profound sadness that Coastal Broadcasting Systems passes along to you the passing of one of our dear friends and a very familiar voice on our radio stations.

“Captain Fred” Klug of Utschs Marina passed away on Wednesday, June 21st. For many years, Mr. Klug offered live fishing reports on WCZT and WJSE that provided exceptional tips on fishing, hot spots, what is and is not biting, and friendly advice. Mr. Klug was extremely generous with his time not only to listeners of the radio stations, but from the many, many individuals who stopped by the Bait and Tackle Shop at Utsch’s Marina, and popular fall events including the annual Yard Sale and striper tournaments.

Mr. Klug was an everyday man who greeted every visitor with a smile, and a handshake. No question was ever too big or too small for Mr. Klug and his warm heart and kind spirit treated everyone with kindness and respect.

Coastal Broadcasting Systems wishes to extend our heartfelt sympathy to a man whom we considered to be part of our family as Mr. Klug was very generous with his time and knowledge. We wish to extend our best wishes to his wife Debbie, his entire family, and to the Utschs Marina family for which we have considered to be the best of friends for decades. Please say a prayer for Mr. Klug, his family, and our friends at Utsch’s Marina, and pause to remember him when you turn on the radio Friday morning at which time Fred always shared his advice and humor with Mark Hunter, Phil Pizzi, and our entire staff.

This Fisherman’s Prayer in a small way for us to honor and remember our dear friend and yours through the radio, Fred Klug.

The Fisherman’s Prayer

I pray that I may live to fish…
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to
my last cast,
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord’s
great landing net
And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
Big enough to keep.
